Without hesitation, Ashley came to the ED to help our nursing staff deliver the compassionate care this family needed.
The ER had a patient who was 16 weeks pregnant, who delivered at home to a baby with "signs of life." The patient was transferred to the Emergency Department via EMS. Due to the delicate nature of this case, and something we as ER nurses do not see often, I called Ashley who is the OB educator to assist. Without hesitation, Ashley came to the ED to help our nursing staff deliver the compassionate care this family needed. I was told by the ER RN caring for the patient was 250 grams in weight. Ashely took the time to introduce herself to the parents and deliver compassionate care. She went above and beyond taking it upon herself to call multiple funeral homes to find the cheapest cost for cremation, started a death certificate, and called in the birth certificate team as the patient was delivered with "signs of life." Ashley then took it upon herself to stay with the patient and family until after the patient was taken by security for aftercare. Ashley took the time away from her department and assisted in this delicate situation in a busy ER and delivered total and compassionate care to this patient and family.
