My daughter is almost three and has been in the hospital for five days so far. Right before shift, she had to get a second IV put in, which took three tries. Austen was scared, exhausted, and done with this entire situation. Although our other nurses have been kind and caring, Ashley stood out to me. She was intuitive to the needs of a scared little girl. She did not just do her job and treat us kindly; she instinctively acted on the needs of my daughter at this moment. She did not do unnecessary testing, she gave us space to calm her when needed, and she was just a natural at “reading the room.” In the middle of the night, she was able to do her job without waking and scaring my daughter even once. I am just so beyond grateful for her intuition and clearly natural gift. Sometimes it is the little things that make the biggest impact.
