The entire nursing staff in the inpatient oncology unit has been helpful and caring professionals since my admission to the unit after surgery. There is one very special nurse who stands far above all others, providing care to me, a newly diagnosed patient. Ashley has been assigned as my nurse for several days this week. While providing direct care, she takes the time to listen to and address my questions and concerns.

Our relationship is unique because she personally experienced a surgery similar to the kind of gastric surgery I just completed for a totally different reason. She provided me outstanding education about the recovery process and some future issues related to nutrition and hydration I will likely face in the future. It adds extra meaning when your nurse truly understands your concerns, fears, and needs for support.

I am nominating Ashley for the DAISY Award because she was willing to share her personal health issues to help me. In all my years, Ashley is by far the best nurse who has cared for me. Many thanks
