This nurse has made women’s health her life’s work. She has worked in the Family Birthplace for 8 years – FT, PT, prn, 7p and 7a. She is currently PT on 7a shift. She is adored by her patients and her co-workers! Not only does she have excellent nursing skills, and is well-trained at her position, she is very compassionate and caring at the bedside – the hallmark of a DAISY Nurse. Many of the patients on our unit have been touched by her care and compassion. She is committed to ensuring that every woman has access to the knowledge and support needed to make healthy decisions for her, her infant, and her family. In addition to working at the FBP, this nurse also works at the Foothills Pregnancy Center one day a week doing ultrasounds, teaching childbirth classes, or helping underprivileged mothers learn new skills through a variety of classes. In addition, she has a non-profit organization that visits incarcerated women as an outreach to promote healthy coping and lifestyle skills. Even though Covid restrictions have recently prevented her from prison visitation, she continues to visit women that she has been working with throughout the years. I am amazed to hear her stories of women she has mentored and how they have changed their lives around! She talks of new mothers who were once homeless – now employed and proudly living in a home they bought. She speaks of women with previous felony backgrounds who are now upstanding members of the community. Not every story is a success, of course, and many can be heart-breaking- which makes her work even more amazing!
