Ashley’s empathy provided the patient with dignity and comfort during this difficult time. Ashley’s care for the patient extended beyond clinical. She forged a relationship with the patient and inspired her peers.
I would like to nominate Ashley for the DAISY Award in recognition of her exceptional contributions to behavioral health nursing. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of witnessing Ashley’s unwavering commitment to her patients, exemplified by her recent interaction with a new patient admitted to the Behavioral Health Unit. This patient was experiencing a mental health crisis coupled with serious medical needs requiring assistance with ADLs. The patient was neglected at home and arrived at our Behavioral Health Unit soiled with urine and feces. The patient was scared and in pain. Ashley was the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) on duty that night, and her compassion was evident. Ashley took time to listen and understand her personal history, all while caring for her medical needs. Ashley rallied a team, and together, they tended to the patient’s immediate needs. Ashley spent time explaining each step of the treatment process in a way the patient could understand. Ashley’s empathy provided the patient with dignity and comfort during this difficult time. Ashley’s care for the patient extended beyond clinical. She forged a relationship with the patient and inspired her peers. Ashley’s exemplary care reflects the core values of nursing: compassion, excellence, and dedication. Her ability to blend professional skill with heartfelt sympathy left a lasting impact on the patient. For these reasons, I am honored to nominate nurse Ashley for the DAISY Award, a recognition she truly deserves for her extraordinary service and kindness. Ashely elevates the standard of care in our Behavioral Health Unit.
