We will never forget the expertise, kindness, skill, & thoughtfulness she exhibited those three long days in the hospital.
New onset diabetes in our two-year-old, G, was life changing news. It was an overwhelming time for everyone & I can only imagine how confusing & scary it was for G, but G was brave & did great with the hospital stay & all the needles. In large part because of the care of Ashely Taylor. G is naturally quite shy, but Ashley quickly gained her trust & she was completely comfortable with Ashely taking her on walks, bringing her to the play area, & obviously providing care. For us parents, Ashley helped us feel that we were capable & confident to take care of our little diabetic. When we left the hospital, she walked all the way out to our car with G in a Little Tike's car, which Ashley carried nearly all the way out to the car because G would get her feet stuck under the car. We didn’t expect to shed any tears when we left, but because of Ashley, we couldn’t help it. We felt like our thank you’s were inadequate for how much she helped us. Usually, families want to leave the hospital as fast as possible & while we were looking forward being home and in our own beds, we hesitated to realize how grateful we are for Ashley and her efforts & wished we could do more to show her how much we appreciated her compassion & dedication. We know she had other patients to care for, but we felt heard & understood like we were talking to a member of our family. Our nomination of Ashley is not because we’ve had bad experience with other nurses/doctors. We are nominating her because she provided exceptional care. We considered ourselves blessed that our stay overlapped perfectly with her shift schedule that week. Ashley has & will see thousands of patients in her career & it’s understandable that she won’t remember everyone, but what’s certain is we will never forget the expertise, kindness, skill, & thoughtfulness she exhibited those three long days in the hospital. We hope that she knows her efforts are not unnoticed. We are forever grateful & appreciative for Ashley’s work during those fateful days.
