About 8 hours after J was born, Ashley gave J his first bath. She noticed his breathing was faster than normal and occasionally gasped for a deeper breath. She ran a few more checks and then consulted with her co-workers. She kept a close eye on J over the next few hours, checking his breaths, O2 levels, glucose, and blood pressure. The NICU nurse was brought over to evaluate J and concluded that he was fine but needed to be watched closely.
Around 3 am Ashley came in for another assessment. Ashley took J's vitals and hooked up the portable OR machine. Help was called in; the NICU nurse looked befuddled at the machine, "Impossible; get another machine," she said. They quickly verified with the second machine. J's oxygen levels were abnormal. J was then brought to the NICU; thanks to Ashley's perseverance, she saved J.

Thank you, Ashley, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
