She immediately assessed the patient, noticed there was no pulse, and then began CPR inside the car.
You can say that it is part of your job, and you can say that is why she is an ED Nurse, and that is what she's supposed to do, but there are times that ER nurses do not get recognition because it is what we do. I have been in the department for less than a year and can read off many examples when I reflect upon my day that the leaders that I work with go above and beyond, yet they shrug it off as that is their job. I reflect on many of these instances and one occasion that this happened continues to come to my mind. Ashlie was working and noticed a car pull up to the Ambulance bay. She left her station to investigate without telling anyone where she was going, I'm presuming that she thought that there was another lost visitor. When she got outside she found a man slumped over in the driver's seat. She immediately assessed the patient, noticed there was no pulse, and then began CPR inside the car. She was pressing on the car horn to get attention from her fellow co-corkers. Another Manager heard the commotion from inside his office, and when he looked out of the window, he saw her inside the car doing CPR and called the ED that was busy inside. The team rushed to help. Ashlie then went back to work and continued her shift like nothing ever happened. Due to her immediate action, the patient lives to see another day on this earth and was discharged from the hospital after emergent interventions that we performed. This is not just your job, this is what makes ER nursing what it is. You deserve recognition for going above and beyond every day. Thank you for all you do in making a difference in our patients lives.
