Ashlie knew how bad of a time this patient has been having and to brighten him up, she went out and bought him a Christmas gift and gave it to him.
We currently have a patient in Inpatient rehab who has been through the many stages of cancer many times and doesn't want to give up. Here on a rehab a couple of days before he was supposed to discharge home from IPR he had bowel obstruction occur along with some other things that required him to be converted back to a medical patient but stayed on IPR. Ashlie was by his side when he was told his cancer worsened and that he had his bowel obstruction. She spoke with him and his family and the surgeon about the process they were going to take. She's spoken with palliative care and hospitalist regarding his medications and his care while keeping him involved as much as possible. She was also by his side when the topic of hospice came up and that patient would need to go home on hospice. She never ceases to amaze me when it comes to her patients and the care she provides. She also knew how bad of a time this patient has been having and to brighten him up, she went out and bought him a Christmas gift and gave it to him. Made him cry which in return made the staff cry. If there is one thing I know it's that Ashlie is a true DAISY Nurse. Ashlie came to us about a year ago after working in the ER at Memorial and she's been nothing but a blessing to us and the patients she cares for.
