A very challenging case created a difficult scenario where common supplies were unable to be used for the patient. The charge nurse and bedside staff were at a loss with how to properly manage this colostomy. Ashly Sterling was called and, after hearing about the challenges, decided to drive up to the hospital on their day off to help provide support and care for this patient. They created a colostomy bag solution, spent extensive time with the patient and his wife and answered many questions for them. They were able to calm the patient down and develop a plan to address the patient’s needs. The next day this nurse contacted the patient and his wife to check up on how they were doing. This nurse is always willing to support the team and, in this case, went above and beyond their duties to help provide support and care while not even on shift!
