Ashlyn is the epitome of service excellence, commitment, positive outlook and compassionate care. As charge, I have had the chance to work closely with Ashlyn for a few months. I have watched her quickly flourish into a spectacular nurse and peer. When I round on our patients or do discharge phone calls there is always someone raving about the extraordinary quality care she gives.
Ashlyn is always checking on her co-workers as well; one day I had not eaten lunch and that precious girl had her husband bring me my favorite snack and drink (I know, right?). Okay so let me tell you what made me decided to fill out this oh so deserving DAISY Award, without giving too much information I will say this:
Ashlyn cared for a patient who had been at Memorial for weeks now. This patient had come in for surgery and was expected to leave in 1-2 days. That was not the case. This patient ended up spending a significant amount of time in the ICU. The patient was sad, did not participate in therapy, and didn't really care to move around at all. Smiling was even difficult for her. Well, this just pulled at Ashlyn's heart strings. Every time Ashlyn would enter her room for those 2 days she would play music, sing, dance, laugh, engage in conversation (not about being sick, or her care or anything hospital related) just chit-chat! Ashlyn stayed in her room a lot, just providing emotional care for this patient. Ashlyn cheered her on, encouraged her, and made her smile! PT also saw the patient this day and for the first time in 50-something days this patient was able to sit on the side of the bed! Ashlyn was right there along with the 3 PT/PTAs cheering for her and clapping with her. She even cried because she was so genuinely happy for her patient.
Ashlyn has such a caring heart. I truly believe she is a blessing to Memorial. She demonstrates our core values on a daily basis. Ashlyn is an excellent nurse! I am so proud to have her as a member of 200 south/Memorial. In addition to the singing, dancing, music, chatting Ashlyn also went out of her way to get this patient exactly what she wanted to eat. I cannot, cannot say enough about Ashlyn. I want to be her when I grow up!
