My son has spent a lot of time in this hospital. Yesterday and today we had one of the best nurses. We've actually had several in all our time at Vandy, but Ashlyn really stands out. Today my son coded. He received chest compressions for 12 minutes. Of all the traumatic things I've seen him go through this was the worst. Ashlyn kept her calm during traumatic experience. She was there to support her team and help to revive our baby.
Ashley also has great communication skills. Anytime she did even the smallest thing she informed us of what it was she was doing. She made sure to read us any and all lab reports. She asked us several times if we had questions and was quick to answer them or find someone who could. Her attention to detail was impeccable. She made sure everything that needed to be done was done. She kept a great eye on sats and made suggestions to the team based on what she observed.
Ashlyn was very knowledgeable of our baby's diagnosis and everything that was going on. She seemed very confident in her skills which put us at ease with her. After observing her with our baby we were also confident with her ability. We do not trust easily, but Ashlyn made it easy to trust her. We felt good about leaving to eat with her on his room. I didn't feel the need to rush right back to the room. Ashlyn showed us compassion and empathy during the worst possible day. This is such a great attribute to have in the nursing field. Ashlyn truly is a fantastic nurse. We couldn't ask for better.
