It was very nice to have Ashlynn encourage, laugh, cry, and just talk to us as new parents and especially as people.
During our stay in PICU Ashlynn was our nurse after our son was off ECMO. While we had been there for over a month it felt like forever. Ashlynn was our night nurse. We had had other nurses and they never told us we could ask for certain things. Ashlynn noticed I was stepping out of the baby’s room to pump in the lobby lactation room. I told her I was stepping out to pump she gave me confused look and looked at the baby's room. So she told me I could ask for a pump to be put in the baby's room and all I had to do was close the curtain and notify the nurse. I had no idea. I was pumping in the lactation room away from my baby. She also let me know that I could get meals since I was breastfeeding. She provided me with a menu and the phone number to call. After being there that long and no one telling me made me upset. I was already going through a traumatic event and having to pump away from my baby made it worse. Ashlynn put in the order for the pump and had it delivered the next day. She provided me with pumping supplies and information. I could not thank her enough for our late-night talks, her help, and her care for my baby. Very few people especially a nurse have had a baby in an ICU setting. Well, at least people that I know. It was very nice to have her encourage, laugh, cry, and just talk to us as new parents and especially as people. To this day I can hear her voice and have flashbacks of our talks and I can appreciate them. Thank you, Ashlynn.
