My 17-year-old son is a bull rider; a 2300lb bull bucked him off and came down with its hind legs directly over his heart. The protection vest broke open. We got to the ER and spent the night in the level 1 trauma care center. My son's troponin levels were elevated, showing bruising of his heart. Around 12:40 that afternoon, we were transferred up to the 5th floor and were greeted by the friendliest young man: Ashton, our RN. He said my son was the first pediatric patient he'd had the opportunity to care for. You couldn't tell it, though. He breezed right through the assessment. Very confident young man. Knowledgeable too. Helpful in everything. All with a happy smile. When he said he was going to do something, it didn't take him long. I knew he cared when he asked my son if he could make him a chocolate shake. See, when I worked as an LPN at Claremore Regional, I made my patients the very same thing. I was so impressed. I knew he cared. This young man deserves this award! I thank the Lord Jesus that all tests came back with no heart damage. I am so thankful. His discharge was faster and included the correct discharge instructions. Thank you, Ashton, RN, and the 5th-floor team.

Thank you, Ashton, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
