Asiyah supported the patient’s autonomy and listened to him during his inpatient admission. He was pleased and felt well cared for.
I wanted to share how much Asiyah Strozier is an asset to WSCI. The first time I met Ms. Strozier, she was warm, friendly, and inviting. As a fellow VA employee, she has treated me as a valued customer and provided great customer service. She assisted with answering my questions and didn’t make me feel like she was too busy to help or that she really didn’t want to assist, but was just doing her job. As the ALS coordinator, I periodically visit the inpatient unit and sometimes need assistance with processes and policies for inpatients, as I am more familiar with outpatient settings. Ms. Strozier ALWAYS, ALWAYS has a ray of light about her. One of the ALS Veterans that I provided care for was an inpatient and all he could do was talk about this nurse that he loved because she was so nice. Every time he came in for an outpatient visit, he would ask about “this nurse.” I didn’t know who he was referring to, but it turns out it was Asiyah Strozier. The Veteran has since passed, but the care he received from Ms. Strozier made an impact on him. This is so important as the disease progression for the ALS population is quick; time well spent is paramount. Asiyah supported the patient’s autonomy and listened to him during his inpatient admission. He was pleased and felt well cared for.

Recently, I called the WSCI Inpatient unit as I was trying to contact respiratory. I could hear the smile in the voice on the phone. The person was courteous and patient. This person explained the process for using the Vocera to reach respiratory via the phone, as I had shared, I didn’t have a Vocera. When the encounter had completed, I asked the young lady what her name was because I was pleased with the conversation. It turns out it was Asiyah I was talking to. I should have known. She is a STELLAR employee and embodies the ICARE values as well as the VA mission. If there is a monetary award, in addition to other accolades, Ms. Strozier should be acknowledged. In an atmosphere where many are busy, there can be chaos with the hustle and bustle of caregiving. Asiyah Strozier rises to the occasion and continues to put her best foot forward. I just want to thank Ms. Asiyah Strozier for all she does. She is letting her light shine.

Just a side note, it took me a little bit to compose this nomination. I have continued to interact with Ms. Strozier, and she still has that smile in her voice, enthusiasm, and professionalism. When I think of the caregiver, I would want to provide care for myself or a loved one, I see Asiyah Strozier.
