She leads by example and, in my opinion, is the best charge nurse I have ever worked with in my nursing career.
For over 17 years of nursing, I have worked with some wonderful charge nurses. There is one nurse who stands out and is amazing: Atasha Mitchell. She always goes above and beyond for her patients, their families, and her staff. She is an excellent team player and is always willing to help her staff. What I love about her is that I don't have to ask her for any help. She consistently assists her staff with various nursing and PCT tasks. She will draw labs, get patients out of bed, medicate patients, give blood transfusions, take patients to restrooms or any test off the floor, hook up pain pumps, and do admissions and discharges without any hesitation. She leads by example and, in my opinion, is the best charge nurse I have ever worked with in my nursing career. Her positive attitude and friendly personality make the work day even better. She is very thoughtful and caring, always asking me if I have taken a lunch break and encouraging me to take one.
One shift was a hectic day for all. She stayed late to help me relocate the pain pump keys when she could have gone home to her children. On another shift, she persuaded me to take lunch, and when I came back to a post-op patient, she had already begun my nursing orders and even started my pain pump, which meant so much to me. Some days, it's hard to take a break away from your patients, but when she is in charge, I feel so confident and secure that she will take care of them while I'm off the floor. I think that she is a tremendous blessing to her patients, staff, and CHI SVHS. I nominate her for the DAISY Award because she is so deserving and needs to be recognized for her compassionate care for others.
