Aubrey was working in Pre-op, preparing a patient for surgery and found that he was from New Mexico. He and his wife were here in Houston alone. The patient and his wife seemed overwhelmed and Aubrey reassured them that they were in good hands and prepared them for their post-op recovery. The wife asked when or if they would see Aubrey again? The surgeon updated her on the patient status after the procedure and Aubrey visited the patient and wife after her shift. Every day Aubrey went to visit and they developed a bond. The relationship grew for almost two months and this amazing nurse comforted the family through two surgeries and Hurricane Harvey before the patient was discharged to a Skilled Nursing Facility. She even brought her fiancé to meet this loving couple. When the patient transferred, Aubrey continued to see them and provide support. She was their only visitor.
About two months after the surgery the couple was preparing to return to New Mexico. They stated that the hardest part about leaving was that they would miss their "adopted daughter, Aubrey." She was a constant source of comfort and from the moment they met her, they knew they were in great hands.
The wife stated, "Aubrey is a great nurse, it is almost as if she were born for the job." Since then this couple has invited Aubrey and her fiancé to their home in New Mexico and look forward to seeing her again.
Aubrey makes a personal connection with everyone she encounters to ensure that her patients are well cared for and have peace of mind. She is committed to doing the best every day for patients and staff. She is a gem and we are thankful to know and work alongside her. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
