The day before my daughter passed away, Audrey took the time to stop at the store and purchased my daughter a blanket, a beautiful sweater, a hair bonnet, eyelashes, and press-on nails. She made sure my daughter had those things on before she passed so she could feel comfortable, cared for, and beautiful.
My daughter passed away in the PICU at Comer Children’s Hospital after a long hospitalization. While this journey has been absolutely heartbreaking, I also feel a deep need to express my gratitude, especially for one extraordinary nurse. The nurses and social workers were truly amazing, but Nurse Audrey was an absolute blessing to our family. She went far beyond the duty of a nurse. Her heart is genuine, compassionate, and beautiful. She laughed with us, cried with us, and even stayed after her shifts ended, simply to be there. She connected with our family as if we had known her forever. That act alone means more to us than words can ever express. Audrey treated my daughter not just as a patient, but as a person. I will always be grateful to her, and she will forever have a special place in our family's hearts. There is no way to ever repay the love and compassion she showed my child during her final days. I hope this DAISY Award nomination reaches her and reminds her that she is not only an exceptional nurse but an incredible human being.
