I knew right away we were in the perfect hospital, and "A" would receive the care we desperately needed.
I am nominating Austin for the DAISY Award because of the wonderful care and kindness he showed me, as well as my son, "A," who was admitted for hypoxemia and asthma exacerbation. From the moment we got into the room, Austin went above providing basic patient care and aimed to make our stay a little easier. My 6-year-old son was tired, weak, and short of breath when first arriving, but Austin spoke to him like a very sympathetic friend and brought a smile to "A's" tiny face. Even though "A" had very little to say, Austin was so interested in the smallest answer to his questions. As a mom, I appreciated that. I knew right away we were in the perfect hospital, and "A" would receive the care we desperately needed. Austin sat down with me and explained everything from what our hospital stay would entail as well as "A's" oxygen levels and medications and answered any and all questions I had with so much patience and understanding. I never felt rushed or unheard at any time during our stay. All through the night, Austin was there for "A" when his oxygen levels fell too low, trying to be unnoticed by me while I slept. All the while, I was just extremely grateful for the amazing around-the-clock care. "A" was amongst wonderful caregivers at St George Regional Hospital. Hoping our wonderful nurse wins the DAISY Award because he definitely deserves it🙏🏼 And a little message to Austin: No words can express how appreciated you are. Our children wouldn't get what they need without you. Moms like me wouldn't feel sane or heard without you. You save our babies, and we couldn't do this without you!!
