Austin is an incredible example of what a compassionate, skillful Emergency Department nurse looks like. He excels in taking care of his patients, helping his coworkers at every turn, and leading by example. Austin is always calm, cool, and collected under pressure, responding to the most serious and critical situations that arise in the ED.

As a Team Leader, Austin manages the department with a levelheaded approach, ensuring a consistent flow of patients through the ER, supporting the staff and providers, and being a tremendous resource to the nurses on duty. As a coworker, Austin takes the initiative to see what needs to be done for his colleagues and pitches in where help is needed to ensure patients are taken care of. Austin has become an educator in training staff in the use of ultrasound-guided IVs and is also a preceptor to new hires for the department.

Austin will always be found helping in the middle of a code or critical condition lending strength and expertise to the event. He recently delivered a baby in the backseat of a car in front of the ED and provided lifesaving measures to the infant until more help arrived. There is truly nothing Austin cannot do in the ED and it has been an honor and privilege to work alongside this amazing individual. He sets the bar high for all of us to be as dedicated and excellent at the job as he is. Well done to everyone’s friend, Austin.
