He was very courteous and kind to me, and he was very thorough in his assessment and listened to my complaints of belly pain.
I was first introduced to Nurse Austin Ramey on Wednesday upon my admission to Pikeville. He was very courteous and kind to me, and he was very thorough in his assessment and listened to my complaints of belly pain. He explained what was going to happen during my stay at the hospital and was very gentle with me while starting my IV. A couple of days later, after my surgery, Nurse Austin was assigned to me again, and this was the first day I was able to take a shower.
My daughters had put me in the shower and I started to feel very strange. The girls said that during this time, I had lost all of my color and was very pale, so they covered me with towels and went and grabbed Nurse Austin. Once he came in to see what was going on, he quickly checked my B/P and saw that it was very low. He got a few of the female NAs on his floor to transfer me out of the shower and into a wheelchair. He noticed my IV had come out and quickly placed another one in my arm and started giving me fluids, and placed me into the bed in a position where my head was down and feet were up.
I started feeling a lot better, and he was there beside me the whole time. He promptly called the doctor and let her know what was happening. They had to put me back on bed rest and gave me more fluids. I was discharged today and was not able to tell Nurse Austin goodbye, but I wanted to give a special thanks to him and his staff for their efforts during my stay.
I felt very secure and taken care of the whole time I was in the hospital, and I will choose PMC as my dedicated facility if any further healthcare needs arise. I had to have surgery to remove a large, painful abscess from my right breast. Austin went above and beyond to help me with my pain, and especially the embarrassment of having to pack the wound, being where it was. He has been so helpful to me and my husband by answering all the questions we had. He has a positive, happy attitude.
