November 2025 Honoree
Ava Giamanco, RN
I would like to nominate Ava for the DAISY Award for the incredible care she gave my 16-year-old son during his visit to the pediatric emergency room after he had a seizure. Never having had a seizure before and rarely being sick before, he had never been in a hospital and was understandably frightened. Even though he’s almost six feet tall and looks like a grown man, Ava saw past that and recognized that he was still just a scared teenager. From the moment she walked in, Ava was patient, kind, and reassuring. She took the time to explain what was happening in a calm, gentle way that helped him feel safe. She talked to him, made him laugh, and treated him with so much respect and understanding. Her compassion turned what could have been a terrifying experience into one that my son remembers with comfort and trust. Ava truly embodies what the DAISY Award stands for — extraordinary compassion, connection, and dedication to patient-centered care. Even as a new nurse on orientation, she showed remarkable professionalism, empathy, and skill. The pediatric emergency department is so lucky to have her, and I know she will continue to make a difference for countless patients and families, just as she did for ours. We will never forget her kindness.
Thank you, Ava, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
