I would like to nominate Aveal Cornelius for the DAISY Award. I have worked alongside Aveal for many years. The care and dedication she shows to our patients goes above and beyond wound care. She is the first hand on deck when a patient's call light needs answered. She helps nurses and aides with bathing, turning, and cleaning. She is called on to answer wound care questions by the staff daily, and she tries to educate everyone about the specific needs of each patient. She cares for these patients in both body & spirit. She makes a point to get to know them while she assesses their wound care needs and remembers little things like their favorite snack or lotion that they like, and she will bring it to them. She checks in with them to see how their day is going, offers a friendly face, and, behind the mask, a beautiful smile that puts patients at ease and makes families trust that their loved one will be in good hands. There isn't just one instance or one patient that makes her stand out, but the daily care and concern for each soul on our unit that makes her more deserving to be a DAISY Award winner. Aveal is a compassionate nurse and an expert in her field of wound care. She treats all of her patients with dignity and builds meaningful connections with each of them. You can tell by the way she interacts with each of her patients that she cares for them as if they were her friends or family. Her intelligence and skill set in the field of wound care is unmatched. She is not afraid to make the tough choices as long as it means a better outcome for her patient. Aveal makes me a better healthcare provider. She is one of the hardest working people I know. It has been a pleasure working and collaborating with her. All of these reasons and many more are why Aveal is deserving of the DAISY Award.
