Avelina Gargano, BSN, RN-BC
During an overnight shift with Avelina, I witnessed firsthand her unwavering dedication to patient care. Despite having multiple challenging patients to attend to, Avelina went above and beyond to make one anxious patient feel better.
At Avelina's request, I helped her for an hour to detangle the hair of a female patient who had been in the hospital for over a month. As I watched, I saw Avelina not only attending to the patient's medical needs but also improving her mental and physical well-being. Avelina sat with her for an hour, talking her through her anxiety while patiently and gently detangling her hair.
In that moment, Avelina showed me what it truly means to be a nurse. Her compassion and care went beyond the basic medical needs of her patient. Avelina took the time to address the patient's emotional needs, helping to alleviate her anxiety and bring comfort during a difficult time.
I am honored to have worked alongside such an incredible nurse, and I am certain that her patients are in the best of hands.
