While in the hospital for a three-day medicine trial, on the first day I had an episode and Averil was right there with me. I could not explain how I was feeling but knew something was wrong. Averil was right on top of checking my heart, blood pressure, and blood sugar. She called the doctor even though I could not explain the problem except with, "I don't feel right". Several hours later I had a second episode which was much more intense than the first and I could describe.
Averil stayed with me until I felt better, she would ask more and more questions so we would have a very detailed report for the doctor. Happy to say it wasn't caused by the new medicine but was a reaction between an old medicine and the new medication. Averil was such a blessing because she understood my anxiety and kept me calm so that the episode didn't get worse. Averil kept me informed of my vital sign data and what the doctors were thinking and planning. This is just one incident; I could write more about Averil and her nursing care. I am a retired nurse who knows what good nursing care is.
