Avery played with him! She helped build a ramp for my son's car, she rolled him around in a chair when he was having a hard time walking ...and so much more!

My son has been a part of the Dell Children's Medical Center for the past 5 years (his whole life). He is a medically complex kid and is at the hospital often. He was last there for a very big, life changing surgery and he had to spend a few days there. Avery was his nurse and she not only went above and beyond for my son to make him feel safe and comfortable, she was also so incredibly patient with him and stayed on his level! She handled everything so gracefully with a huge smile and did anything and everything she could to encourage my son to eat because he was having a hard time doing so.

Avery played with him! She helped build a RAMP for my son's car, she rolled him around in a chair when he was having a hard time walking which made him feel GOOD because he wasn't stuck to his hospital bed like most stays! And so much more! Those things may seem like small things to some, but for a child who isn't always able to do what most kids his age can, it's HUGE. HE FELT LIKE A NORMAL KID BECAUSE OF HIS NURSE. Something he isn't able to experience fully, often.

Avery was a breath of fresh air. As a mother, seeing someone treat my son so kindly and with such a caring heart, I truly did cry on the inside. She saw past the illness and disabilities and made a way to make him feel like the super hero kid that he is in all of the ways that she could! I trusted her with my child wholeheartedly! Frequent long hospital stays can really put a damper in your mood/spirit sometimes. Before meeting Avery, most stays my son would be sad to be there, having to spend more time in a doctors office than anywhere else. But because of Avery, my son was actually HAPPY to be there! It was as if he had forgotten the reason he was even there! He smiled, he LAUGHED and he told me that he was sad to leave and didn't mind staying longer because it meant he got to spend more time with his most favorite new friend; AVERY! He even fought back TEARS and if you knew my child, you'd know that, that is HUGE for him.

You can tell when a nurse truly loves what they do by the lengths that they are willing to go for their patient and Avery is that type of nurse. She was MADE for this. Avery, if you are reading this, THANK YOU. You may not know this, but you made a HUGE impact on my son's life. Because of you, he experienced fun moments and memories that don't happen as often as I wish they could for him. You are someone he will ALWAYS remember!
