When I had a TIA, I couldn’t even stand without help. My eyes were moving in every direction, and I didn’t understand what was happening to me. I was terrified and confused.
In the middle of that, there was Awet. He was steady, kind, and patient. He didn’t rush me or dismiss what I was feeling. He stayed present, helped me physically when I couldn’t help myself, and treated me with real compassion and understanding. He saw how serious and scary it was and met that moment with me.
There was nothing forced about his care. It was just who he is. I don’t just remember him—I’m deeply grateful for him. And I truly hope he is recognized for what he does, because I know this wasn’t about me. This is how he shows up. He cares, and it shows.
What he did mattered more than I can put into words, and I will not forget it.
