April 2026 Honoree
Ayla Pehlic, BSN, RN
Ayla was assigned to 805, a gentleman recently admitted with a catastrophic neurologic emergency who was now a brain dead donor. The patient had been married to his wife for 10 years. They married on the same date they met and today was their wedding anniversary. His wife did not want to leave his side.
Ayla worked hard to form a genuine connection with his wife, and also took time to consider their children. In an effort to lift their spirits, she asked the kids how she could bring them comfort. After learning about their interest in Disney characters, she left work, purchased a wig, cape and other necessities. The next day, Ayla returned to work dressed head to toe as their favorite Disney character ( I have a picture!) ... soley to bring light and joy to their day. The family was so touched by the thoughtful gesture. Ayla also helped the family created memorabilia to take with them.
These thoughtful gestures were the cherry on top of her outstanding care and consistent family support. She remained attentive to the family's needs, patiently answered every question and gave them a voice. Her compassion and dedication made such a meaningful impact on the family, and was noticed by the entire care team.
Thank you, Ayla, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
