Bahar took the time to get to know me and my family members who accompanied me to my infusions and learn about what was happening in my life.
Over the past three months, I’ve been a patient at the Mayo Infusion Center, working with many different nurses. All have been very kind to me; however, one has been exceptional - Bahar Camoriano. Bahar has a way about her, making me feel like I was her only patient. One day earlier this spring, I was receiving an infusion. My veins had become tricky for the IV, because of the frequency of infusions. Bahar sat next to me, talked to me in her gentle way, and had no trouble getting the IV started, even though the last few infusions had taken numerous attempts. I was nervous about the IV, and I didn’t even know it had gone in because she’s so skilled not only at nursing but also at making me feel comfortable. Bahar took the time to get to know me and my family members who accompanied me to my infusions and learn about what was happening in my life. She cheered my daughter on as she finished a year of college and celebrated with my husband and me as our son graduated from high school. Bahar’s greatest gift is treating me like a valued person instead of a patient in the infusion bed. No matter how unwell I felt walking into or out of the Infusion Center, when I saw Bahar, even when she wasn’t my nurse, she took the time to greet me by name, and her smile made me feel better. Bahar is extraordinary and the kind of nurse every patient deserves and hopes for when facing medical challenges. I’m so grateful to Bahar. She’s most deserving of a DAISY Award to honor and celebrate her skillful compassionate care. From my heart, thank you, Nurse Bahar.
