Bailey Pederson, RN

My father underwent a laryngectomy at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix and was cleared for discharge by his surgeon. However, due to significant delays in obtaining his necessary DME (durable medical equipment) supplies, he was unable to go home for three additional days after being told he could leave. As you can imagine, after undergoing such a major surgery and then being told he could go home only to face day after day of uncertainty, he became extremely agitated and frustrated.

Bailey Pederson was extraordinary throughout the entire ordeal. While the DME coordination challenges were outside of her direct control, she never stopped advocating for my father and working to resolve the situation. She went above and beyond her nursing duties to push for a resolution so he could get home where he needed to be, to recover.

What stood out most was the way Bailey handled my father during his most difficult moments. When he was at his most agitated and upset, Bailey approached him with remarkable composure, patience, and professionally polite, but truly human care. She acknowledged his frustration, validated his feelings, and reassured him in a way that actually calmed him down. That is not a small thing. After days of stress and disappointment, her words and her presence gave him peace.

A laryngectomy is one of the most life-altering surgeries a person can go through. My father was already navigating enormous emotional and physical challenges. Bailey’s compassion during this time made a lasting impression on our entire family. She treated him with the dignity and respect every patient deserves, especially at their most vulnerable.

Bailey Pederson embodies everything the DAISY Award represents. She is an exceptional nurse and an extraordinary human being, and our family is forever grateful for the care she gave our father.
