Baillie Confair

During our time in our final semester clinical rotation, I watched Baillie continuously be an advocate for her ill patients. There is a specific story that comes to mind that I would like to nominate her for. A patient came in via a trauma, she was right there helping set up the room, prep the patient, and ask intake questions. This patient needed emergency ventilation help, and no one was listening to her. Baillie got up close to her, held her hand, and asked her if there was anything she needed us to do for her. It turns out she had a cat at home and since she lives alone, she needed to arrange for family to help care for her cat. Baillie was able to get ahold of her granddaughter and arrange for care while continuously caring for the patient and holding her hand. She stayed by this patient’s side throughout the entire intubation process, just holding her hand and continuously reminding her that everything would be okay. No one else had that level of compassion during the stressful time.
