COVID has taken a toll on the MSICU staff, but as a unit, as a team, we have banded together and have been there for each other during these difficult days.
Tower 4A has been designated a COVID ICU from the beginning of COVID, March 2020. We have spent countless hours dealing with the sickest of the sick COVID patients, most of whom unfortunately do not make it. We have had to deal with deaths exponentially more than what we are used to. We have held the hands of countless individuals because their family members were not permitted in the rooms. We have worked tirelessly to save these patients, only to cry with heartbreak as they take their last breath.

COVID has taken a toll on the MSICU staff, but as a unit, as a team, we have banded together and have been there for each other during these difficult days. While caring for these sick COVID patients, we have had to daily adjust our staffing to also take care of the sick non-COVID patients. We have dealt with all kinds of adversity, including the pandemic creating a nursing shortage and nurses leaving for travel money/experience. Throughout the last year though, our nurses have picked up extra shifts pretty much on a weekly basis. We have pulled together as a team and made the absolute best of the situation. We have learned from each other, cried with each other, and most importantly we have supported each other. I am so proud of all the amazing care our unit has provided. We have been through this last year together and it is something that we as a team will always be proud of.
