Barb is passionate, dedicated, serves without hesitation, considerate, kind, a visionary, an advocate, warm-hearted, supportive, and devout.
As we enter May 2024, it symbolizes a month in nursing history that recognizes our profession and celebrates all that we do to serve others. It is not by coincidence, but divine intervention that we celebrate and recognize one particular nurse who has dedicated her life to both nursing and serving others.
Barbara Miller is celebrating 42 years of a historic career as a nurse and 22 years at Endeavor Health. As we plan for Barb’s retirement, we celebrate and honor her with a DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award. Barb is at the foundation of our Magnet culture. In 2006, Barb was introduced to Magnet and selected to lead the effort for not one, but four Magnet designations for the North Shore hospitals. Barb embraces and models what it is to give selflessly and unconditionally. She is dedicated to honoring and recognizing all nurses and the achievements and outcomes they drive. So many words come to mind when I think of Barb. She is passionate, dedicated, serves without hesitation, considerate, kind, a visionary, an advocate, warm-hearted, supportive, and devout.
Barb, from the moment you first said “W, that’s not my perception” and “Where’s the Coffeeee Shop” I knew I was hooked! To the nurse who kept every email, who takes notes at every meeting (and even at concerts), who recalls the history of nursing at ENH to NorthShore to Endeavor from the moment she first stepped foot in the door through this very minute, who was the member of so many work groups, initiatives, collaboratives, committees, councils that there are too many to name in her tenure here at Endeavor Health directly. To this nurse Barb I am eternally grateful. Grateful for the chance you took on me, grateful for the guidance you have bestowed, grateful for the moments I caught you off guard and made you laugh, and dare I say it, grateful for the time I got to spend with you in the war room. Through so many changes, you maintained your steadfast beliefs, and you served as our due North, guiding us (nursing) where we needed to be. The example you set and the impact you have had on so many nurses as they learned about shared governance, nursing practice, policies, procedures, and Magnet have forever changed Nursing at Endeavor Health. You have built a foundation for Nursing Excellence that is solid, intentional, and unwavering. We, the Magnet team, will continue the work and ensure that we uphold the framework you built for nursing excellence at Endeavor Health.
The attributes mentioned are why Barb is so deserving of this award. There is no question, Barb is a great leader! It is our honor to present her with this DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award today in recognition of all that she is, all that she does, and all she will continue to do not just for nursing but for everyone.
