Barbara Calla is an RN at the Breast Care Center at Winchester Hospital. She is my sister-in-law's sister. Barb volunteered to help me as I went from my breast cancer diagnosis to lumpectomies, to chemo, to my eventual mastectomy. She reinforced what my medical team taught, allayed my fears, and clarified questions - like a private tutor. Ahead of time, I asked my surgeon if Barb could be there when he taught me how to change my dressing. (He was happy to have her) Barb volunteered to be my nurse at home upon discharge from hospital and helped me with my drains etc. The following day she helped me face my incision by preparing me for what I might see. With her guidance, I had no fear I am continuing to recover nicely.
Barb has witnessed cancer first hand, having lost her son during his battle. She was amazing. She volunteers her help when she knows someone may benefit, and I know I am not the only one. Barb exemplifies what is best in the medical field. She is a nurse who understands the science and the heart. She is a true healer.
