Barbie is not only an excellent Nurse and patient advocate, she is a caring, compassionate, selfless human being that made a lasting impression on many lives this holiday season.
Since the beginning of the Covid Pandemic, Nurses have been caring for patients that have been fighting this disease and even dying alone. This has been very emotional and heartbreaking for nursing staff. Barbie decided she wanted to spread some Christmas cheer to all of the inpatients on the unit by placing mini Christmas trees in each of their rooms. She rallied the troops and received donations from staff.

This project faced a few challenges along the way, the biggest being half the mini tree order being canceled without notice. Barbie did not let that stop her. She searched several stores in the city and made multiple phone calls to stores as far as Baton Rouge without any luck. The decision was made to make mini wreaths to make up for the missing order. Barbie purchased all the supplies and put her little elves to work.

She made almost 40 mini wreaths and trees complete with tree skirts. The patients were so elated to receive these special, unexpected treats on Christmas Eve. Barbie took time away from her family to personally deliver the trees and wreaths to the patients.

One patient forgot her tree when she was discharged. She made sure to call the unit to tell them not to throw her tree away as it was so special and she was coming back to get it.

Another patient stated this Act of kindness made being in the hospital for Christmas less painful. Barbie is not only an excellent Nurse and patient advocate, she is a caring, compassionate, selfless human being that made a lasting impression on many lives this holiday season.
