Dr. Cherry is widely recognized for her extraordinary compassion, relational leadership, and commitment to the well‑being of others. Her return from retirement to serve as Interim Associate Dean and Department Chair for the Graduate Nursing Program came at a moment of organizational strain. Faculty and staff were experiencing burnout; morale was low, and an accreditation review loomed months away. Rather than approaching the role through the lens of crisis management, Dr. Cherry grounded her leadership in people-centered care.

From her first days back, she cultivated an environment where every individual felt valued and supported. She met one‑on‑one with faculty and staff, listening with intention and empathy, and offering calm, thoughtful guidance tailored to each person’s strengths. Her leadership is transformational.
