Three years ago Barbara came on to our care team when our regular clinic nurse took maternity leave, Barbara was exceptional in her care of X. Throughout the more than three years X has had events that were unexpected. One time, in particular, X had scheduled routine scans, he wasn't feeling well so we stopped into the clinic between scheduled appointments. Barbara was charge nurse on this particular day. When she saw X she ushered him immediately to a room and handed off her assignment so she could be focused on getting X feeling better. X was not actively in treatment at this time. Barbara ensured that X got fluids, medicine, and everything he needed. He left that day feeling so much better. There have been several events like this. Most recently, X has relapsed. Barbara sat with us while discussing the plan for treatment. She was a comforting presence, she lent confidence and reassurance to a very uncertain situation. Barbara is remarkably attentive and caring. She has expressed sincere empathy and has gone above and beyond to ensure X is comfortable and has choices. As an experienced nurse, she also works amazingly with the team to meet needs. She always asks what our preferences are and supports them. I cannot say enough about her really. She is truly a comfort every time we've walked through the clinic doors. X says whenever he sees her he feels happy, he likes her hugs, and "she obviously cares about me and always wants me to be happy". She respects his preferences too and always checks in with him and his comfort level.
To summarize, Barbara is so well rounded in her nursing practice, she is skilled, empathetic, sympathetic, patient, insightful, devoted, team-oriented, beyond caring and so validating. she goes well above expectations to ensure the best care of X and our family.
Barbara has consistently been a source of compassionate care and advocacy for X, a true asset to the CCMC team of excellence for the kids served.
