Our son, M, was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. He was immediately scheduled for surgery at Roswell.
After a very long and grueling day of waiting, listening, trying to understand the surgery, and digesting what had just happened, our son was transported to your ICU on the 8th floor. We were still in shock. That day, an angel came to us as his nurse, Barb. Barb was there when he came from recovery. She was kind, patient, and so caring. We saw how she professionally treated our son making sure he was comfortable, in no pain, and being managed. He came out of surgery with a facial paralysis that alarmed him. He was agitated and unsure of what was going on. She patiently and kindly explained to him, and us in turn what was going on. He had some speech impairment but she was able to understand what he wanted to ask. Her even and steady nature made him calm down and created some peace where there was chaos. M required hourly neurological checks which agitated him, but she was so kind, she made him understand how necessary they were. We were lucky as Barb remained with M for three more days and got us over the hurdle of post-op surgery recovery.
Barb actually nursed all of us. It was wonderful to have her with us, she was a God send for sure. She talked about her career, talked to M about his life, and made us feel so comfortable. Truly a wonderful woman! Her dedication to patient care was extraordinary. Her outreach to family was equally extraordinary. We thanked her profusely when she left us, but no words can express what Barb meant to us.
