When the department feels like it's burning to the ground, Barb is always there to provide a hand, a hug, or an ear.
Barb is the mother of our department. The Emergency Department morale can be turbulent due to many factors, but a consistent, positive affirmation will always come from Barb. She is not only a dedicated and excellent nurse, but she can serve as a therapist, a bestie, a mom, a friend, anything you may need to get yourself through a rough shift. However, when our home lives become too much and pour over into your work life, she is there to support and provide needed encouragement.
Although she provides personal support, she is also an often-overlooked vital component of our team. She doesn't take downtime to be a time to relax; it's simply time she can focus on other goals for the department. She is constantly looking to expand, learn, and educate. In a department where many nursing staff can be quickly stereotyped, Barb stays unvarying as she exudes positivity and encouragement. We love and appreciate her. Her positive attitude is contagious and brings a sense of calm and optimism to the often high-stress environment of the Emergency Department.
As a team player, she supports her colleagues without hesitation, stepping in and stepping up wherever needed to ensure patients receive timely and compassionate high-quality care. Her clinical skills and attention to detail directly contribute to better patient outcomes, but it's her kindness and professionalism with our staff that make her shine. She makes us feel heard, safe, and respected, which is not always the case for staff in a hospital setting. Her presence strengthens our team and creates a meaningful difference every day. When the department feels like it's burning to the ground, Barb is always there to provide a hand, a hug, or an ear.
Thank you, Barb!
