Barbara brightens a room with her smile and just makes you feel good being around her.
It is such a pleasure to work with Barbara and just to be in her presence. She loves being a nurse and it shows. The empathy and compassion she shows to her patients and their families is like no other nurse I have worked with.

The reason I am nominating Barbara for the DAISY Award is not because of one special scenario that I have witnessed but because of the way this nurse interacts with every patient and every coworker. It is not common to see a nurse who is capable of smiling and being genuine with every patient and in every scenario that is thrown her way, but Barbara is an exception. Barbara brightens a room with her smile and just makes you feel good being around her. Her love for all people has made her an exceptional nurse and she deserves to be recognized for the outstanding care she provides. We are all better people for knowing her.

*****

Before Barbara was aware that she was nominated for the DAISY Award, she contracted COVID-19 at work and was hospitalized and died. After Barbara's death, she was nominated three additional times for the award.

On June 1st after a memorial bench dedication ceremony for Barbara, her husband, daughter, and other family members were presented the DAISY Honoree Award on Barbara's behalf.

COVID-19 has taken one of our very best. Barbara absolutely loved being a nurse and she died doing the job she loved. We will always remember her and the many many lives she touched. Barbara was the definition of an Extraordinary Nurse and very deserving of this honor.
