Barbara was putting forth her best effort because her heart is in her work. She cares and she takes pride in what she does.
Barbara was the absolute best and most attentive nurse I have ever had any experience with. My mother was admitted to the ICU unit from the ER in October 2020 with internal bleeding. She had to be put on a ventilator while in the ER. This was all very unexpected for us and therefore was very scary, to say the least. I was told while in the ER that my mother was most likely looking at only days to live. This also was a shock to me. Due to COVID restrictions, I had no family support there with me.
My fear and anxiety must have been evident on my face. When I got into the ICU room with my mother, Barbara met me with a very calm but stern and confident voice. She looked at me and said, "I don't know what anyone may have told you so far, but don't worry. Your mom is going to be ok. We are taking care of her." I was surprised to hear those words and didn't necessarily have a whole lot of faith in them until I watched Barbara for a little while. She was so confident, obviously very competent, and extremely attentive. She stayed right there with my mother, hardly leaving her side until her shift end. I did not want her to leave. She seemed to know everything mama might need at the time and went ahead and took care of it. I have been in the ICU units with other family members as well as my mother before this instance but never have I ever witnessed a nurse so on top of the game and so attentive.
I told her how much I appreciated her and how great I thought she was. It was clear to me that she wasn't working for mine nor anyone else's praise or recognition. Barbara was putting forth her best effort because her heart is in her work. She cares and she takes pride in what she does.
My mother did recover and returned home where she remains over a month later. She is still very sick with cancer but Barbara was right and gave me the perfect comfort and encouragement that I needed at the time.
I do hope you will recognize her faithfulness and dedication to Piedmont patients and family members. She is awesome!
