I am a flight paramedic on MAMA and have worked with Barbara for almost 11 years. I can honestly say, I have never worked a day with her that I didn't learn something from her regarding compassion for people and the reason we are really here.
Yesterday, we flew a baby from a scene who had an episode where she was having a difficult time breathing effectively. As we arrived at the scene, it was clear that EMS had done a great job and the baby's condition had improved.
We transported the baby to Mission and monitored her throughout without any problems. What struck me though was that Barbara kept her hand hovering over the baby the entire flight. It was because the child was holding on to Barbara's finger for comfort.
After the flight, Barbara made sure we went back to the room to check on the family as well.
That's just the way Barbara is. She does her job the right way, every day, without fail and treats every patient and family we contact with love and respect.
She is no less impressive with the more intense patients that we are involved with on a day in, day out basis.
Simply stated, she is truly a gifted nurse who knows what is important to patients and families.
