Barbara Schubach is an extraordinary nurse, and we are very fortunate to have her as part of our Watsonville Community Hospital Family. Barbara has a wealth of experience and always demonstrates professionalism. She is known for her contagious smile and positive outlook. When the nurses see her rounding and caring for patients, they are truly grateful for her expert knowledge and willingness to jump in no matter what the circumstances may be.
Barbara had several nominations this past quarter describing her extraordinary patient care from both patients and peers. All of her nominations truly recognized and spoke of her extraordinary care.
During a recent inpatient admission, a patient was suffering from a multitude of illnesses. She was compromised, confused, and unfortunately needed restraints. This patient also had family issues in which the caregiver was very challenging. Barbara immediately recognized this patient had multiple skin issues resulting from failure to thrive. She noted bruising, scratching, and skin breakdown in the area of the restraints. Barbara took baseline pictures, clearly documented her nursing assessment, and developed a plan of care in order to provide quality care. "She continued to follow this patient throughout her stay." During this time, the family made a complaint to CDPH. On investigation, Barbara due to her meticulous patient care impressed CDPH and then reported no findings. CDPH was always quite impressed with Barbara's patient care.
ICU Nurses also nominated Barbara.
"She is amazing." "She treats every patient with the utmost kindness and respect." "She is very thorough and patient. She assists the nurses with care such as peri care and turning patients. She is always pleasant. She takes time to listen." "Barbara has a great rapport with the doctors. She works very hard. She is truly extraordinary!" "She also does so much education. She teaches about wound prevention and about wound treatment. She truly cares and it shows."
