I am writing with the highest compliments for your nurse supervisor Barbara Tuscan! My mother lives in Palm Beach Gardens and was taken to your hospital by ambulance after she was hit as a pedestrian by her friend’s car (while her friend was driving in a parking lot). My mother, who is almost 80, had two back-to-back emergency surgeries at PBG Medical Center and spent almost a week on the orthopedic floor before being transferred to an inpatient rehab center where she stayed for over two months. Her injuries (shattered left knee and right wrist) were serious, and we were very worried. Barbara made a positive difference during a difficult time, and we will be forever grateful. Speaking with Barbara was our first impression of PBG Medical Center, and she did a wonderful job patiently listening, genuinely caring, and actively problem-solving.

I live 10 hours away and started driving as soon as possible after I learned that my mother was in your ER. I called the hospital while driving and was transferred to Barbara to discuss COVID policy restrictions regarding hospital visitation. Barbara took the time to listen to me over the phone as I explained the situation. I was a nervous daughter who was worried about her elderly mother, and I did not know what to expect. Barbara made sure that I had her direct line so that I could contact her if there were issues when I arrived – which was going to be after regular visiting hours. Barbara walked me through what to do and where to go so that I could see my mother in the hospital that evening. I called a family friend to sit with my mother after she came out of her surgeries, and Barbara made sure that our friend was allowed to be there for my mom when I couldn’t. Barbara also authorized me as a second visitor that same day after driving for over 10 hours. My mother was calmer knowing that I would be allowed to visit her during that second night after her two surgeries.

Recently, I returned to check on my mom and stay with her. On my to-do list was reaching out to Barbara Tuscan to say a heartfelt thank you. I will be bringing some goodies by the hospital for her and her staff. I will never forget her kindness and understanding. Barbara’s genuine interest and compassion had a tremendous positive impact on my family and made our 10-hour drive more hopeful. I wanted her supervisors to know that she is an example of how one person can make a big difference. Barbara took the time to go above and beyond! Thank you for providing excellent care and helping our family. My mother is recovering well, and we are so grateful for what everyone did at PBG Medical Center.
