Barbara is a role model on our Oncology Unit as she exemplifies compassionate patient and family-centered care every day. She is a leader who precepts new and experienced nurses and continues to mentor them throughout their career. By educating and caring for patients struggling with a new diagnosis and providing dignified end-of-life care, her impact on the patients and families is extraordinary. I have seen Barb run to ICU to comfort a patient's grieving wife, advocate for patients struggling with their desire to continue treatment; continue to fight, and help those faced with a terrible disease express and work through anger, denial, pain, physical changes, as well as mental distress. Barbara is not only an outstanding person and a dedicated nurse, but in my opinion, an outstanding representative for the DAISY Award.
