Staff Nurse Neurology Clinic
A graduate of St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, Barb has worked as a nurse at UIHC since 12/1/86, first in the inpatient neurology unit and transferring to the Neurology Clinic in 1989. Currently, she works primarily with patients with headaches as a care coordinator. Barb was nominated for the DAISY Award by one of the Neurology Staff Physicians in the Headache Division, who stated:
As a headache specialist, I have worked closely with Barbara since 2000. It is impossible for me to report just one example that indicates how wonderful she is with our patients, families, and staff. Our patients are usually suffering from chronic pain, frustrated and desperate. Barbara is always patient and compassionate with them. I have had many patients tell me how comforting it is to be able to call and talk to Barbara when they are in pain and need some help. A patient told me once that “just hearing her soothing voice and advice makes her feel better when she is in having a disabling migraine attack.” And many have told me “I hope you realize how wonderful Barbara is.”
I really believe that Barbara helps many patients by LISTENING to them and by giving them wise advice. These are things that medications cannot do. Barbara is a team player and I simply could not do my job without her. In these difficult and demanding times, Barbara still finds a way to nurse her patients.
