Barby was nominated by a patient who became a first-time mom. She said, “Nurse Barby was extremely thoughtful, attentive, and considerate throughout our time.” She went on to share her experience, which included this narrative:

“We had a few scary moments in which the heart rate of our son dropped with contractions. Nurse Barby provided comfort and an incredible sense of calm as we navigated labor. Due to the epidural, we constantly moved my body around to maintain a safe laboring position and to keep our son’s heart rate stable. She was with me every step of the way, holding my body in weird positions, encouraging me throughout every push, and keeping us informed as we progressed. One of the most incredible aspects of our experience with Nurse Barby is that she was well into her second trimester! She treated us as she would want herself treated for her own pregnancy. She waited well after her shift to monitor my pushing progress. I will never underestimate how determined she was to ensure the safety of my son and me. Nurse Barby will forever be remembered as a powerful influence on our birth story and I am so grateful to her.”
