Barry is the epitome of what a good nurse looks like! Caring, compassionate, considerate, and strong. Barry looked after my Mum following a stroke in December. He looked after my Mum very well along with the support of his team but what struck me and my family the most was how he looked after us too. Nothing was ever too much trouble, he took time to explain exactly what was going on and supported us to make the right decisions on behalf of our Mum and ourselves. The unit is extremely busy but he made it look easy, he has a quiet air of authority and was obvious his colleagues respected him greatly. We had confidence in him to provide the best care possible and felt safe when we left Mum in his capable hands. I feel very lucky that Mum was looked after by Barry, he is the ward manager and I suspect he isn't always clinical but even on those days when he was office-based he took the time out to speak to us and come and see Mum, even before she was discharged to say goodbye.
