In addition to being a diligent, hardworking, and meticulous Nurse, I am motivated, and enthusiastic and have taken pride in the quality of care provided to our patients and I strive only for the best outcomes in all my endeavors.
Prior to nursing school, Basmattie’s first career was in Guyana after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Afterward, she worked in a large pharmaceutical company as a quality control chemist and was later promoted to the position of production manager. After completing an Associate degree in Pharmacy, she worked as a pharmaceutical manager in Guyana with some of the leading pharmaceutical companies. Subsequently, she worked as a hospital pharmacist in the British Virgin Islands while awaiting immigration sponsorship to the U.S.
Upon migrating to the U.S., she worked in the business and financial sector while attending Nursing school. Basmattie graduated in January 2013 from St Paul’s School of Nursing after completing an Associate of Science degree in Nursing. She graduated as the valedictorian and received the Dean’s Award for outstanding academic achievements. She then completed her BSN degree in May 2015 from The New York City College of Technology and was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars which is an honor society for high-achieving college students. After receiving her license to practice as a Registered Nurse, Basmattie worked as a pediatric home visit Nurse and subsequently joined NYC H+H/ Woodhull in September 2015. As a staff Nurse, she was given the opportunity to be engaged in many initiatives such as the Baby-Friendly initiative, the Shared Governance Committee of which she is currently the acting co-chair, and the MCH Journal Club in which she has done multiple WebEx educational presentations, and presented at the Nursing Grand Rounds.
Basmattie states, “In addition to being a diligent, hardworking, and meticulous Nurse, I am motivated, enthusiastic and have taken pride in the quality of care provided to our patients and I strive only for the best outcomes in all my endeavors. This award is reflective of the extraordinary services given to the patient as well as the environment in which I work. I also always strive to ensure exceptional service is given to my patients by all other members of the interdisciplinary team that cares for my patient as a strong patient advocate”.
