At times, nursing may feel like a thankless job considering the care nurses provide and the impact they have by the many lives they touch. Those special moments aren't always captured and are often left unrecognized. This isn't the case for Beatrice "Bea" Rendon - her patient wanted her to know how much he appreciated her.
"I was taken very good care of throughout my entire stay. One nurse, in particular, stood out the most, her name is Bea. Her bedside manner was very sweet and professional. She went the extra mile to see that I was comfortable. One night, in particular, Bea noticed my lights were on in my room at three in the morning. She came into my room and asked if everything was OK and if there was anything she could do for me. She came over to the side of my bed, held my hand and asked what was wrong."
The patient then proceeded to tell her he was getting depressed from being in the hospital for so long.
"For the next 20 minutes, she stood there and let me vent to her. I felt so much better afterward," her patient wrote.
Often times we forget to slow down and check on others. Bea is a perfect example of why it is important to stop, smile and listen.
